Academic Support and Tutoring

Academic Support and Tutoring During Covid-19

Breakthrough and Bay Area Tutoring Association provides academic services for low income K-12th. They prepare students with limited educational opportunities for success in their courses to erase the achievement gap by providing various services to students and their families. Since students continue to adapt to online learning, low income students might find it more difficult to obtain the materials necessary to continue learning.

Although one on one interaction benefits students’ relationship with staff and peers, the pandemic has presented many transitions that force students to experience transitions involving limited in-person interaction. These transitions work to achieve the best possible outcome for the students as well as ensure their well-being. Transitions include virtual connections, as well as an increase in technology use. Students and families are forced to increase their familiarity with technology. School closures and shelter-in place may present many obstacles and risks for low-income families due to limited access to technology, internet, or space to focus. This can increase the educational gap that already exists. Breakthrough and Bay Area Tutoring Association are working harder than ever to improve the resources they provide to ensure the gap decreases despite the adversities they may face
