Carolyn's Video:
WHO WE ARE:
Carolyn Denny is K-4 librarian in a small private school in San Antonio, Texas.
Lorella is currently the Director Early Childhood in a private school in Manhattan, New York called WeGrow. However in the fall she will be returning to a first grade classroom in Scarsdale, New York.
OUR PARTNERSHIP:
Option 3: Develop separate lessons and be critical friends and thought partners
Provide a brief description of the context in which you work and your learners to help readers better understand the unique work that evolves from your collaboration.
PARTNER 1 CONTEXT & LEARNERS:
I am the K-4 librarian in a small private school that serves academically gifted students. My learners work at least one year above grade level and come with a multitude of experiences in their toolboxes. My challenge is to keep them engaged and move them from where they are to beyond.
Lorella Lamonaca
I have been an educator for the past 30 years. I'm both a classroom teacher and a staff developer.
This past year I was the Early Childhood director of WeGrow, a private school in New York City.
I've presented at national and international conferences the last was at NCTE in November of 2019 on documentation with Angela Stockman.
I teach and coordinate conferences based on the Reggio Emilia approach here and in Italy.

THE PURPOSE OF MY INQUIRY: My purpose is to help students see stories as opportunities to consider how kindness can be shown to everyone in every situation. Much like Lorella's purpose, my hope is to build relationships with and between students as well as between them and others in the world.
LESSON SUMMARY: Whether real time or anytime, lessons will be accessed through Canvas LMS. A meme could be used to set the purpose for reading, the read-aloud both live and recorded, and a follow-up reflection activity to stretch our thinking beyond ourselves.
TEACHING GOALS: Some digital teaching practices we will hone are navigating the LMS, reading a meme or other digital image, attending to/focusing on a recorded teach piece, and tools for reflection and sharing.
LEARNING OUTCOMES: Students will learn how to navigate the Canvas LMS, use padlet and flipgrid, and will learn how to think beyond themselves to the needs of others.
TEXTS/TOOLS/TECHNOLOGIES AND RATIONALE: I'll use my iPhone camera to record myself reading to my students. It's handy because the video automatically uploads to my Mac. Our school is using Canvas, and this will be my first time to use it, but I think this LMS has many features that will make distance learning a much more robust experience for students. Padlet is a free resource that I like because students will be able to see each other's responses and even respond to each other. I like flipgrid for the same reason, but responses are enhanced by seeing the students' faces.

THE PURPOSE OF OUR INQUIRY:
I will be returning back to the classroom in September and would like to develop a personal inquiry project for myself, my students and their families. I would also like to explore the different platforms that we are learning this week.
LESSON SUMMARY:
This will occur at the beginning of the week and continue throughout the year
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
We will be able to learn about each other and establish a community online and off line.
TEXTS/TOOLS/TECHNOLOGIES AND RATIONALE: I will use seesaw, padlet, and Flipgrid.
THE PURPOSE OF OUR INQUIRY: Is to establish relationships in our class community.
This Inquiry Plan Template documents our planning and learning this week.
[You may decide to outline key elements of your work below, or you can simply delete the next text box and point readers directly to your inquiry plan. Once your homeroom leader knows how you will work with your partner, they can help create separate inquiry plan templates for each person if needed.]
PARTNER 1
INSPIRE (Anytime): Use memes, short video clips, or other media to activate prior knowledge and/or to inspire personal connections.
ENGAGE (Anytime): Recorded read-aloud of books or poems or book talks. Share thoughts using padlet. Read others' responses. Respond to others' responses.
CONNECT (Real-time): Live discussions following up on padlet responses.
CREATE (Anytime/Real-Time): Use flipgrid to synthesize your final thoughts.

CREATE (Anytime/Real-Time):
I plan to use this module the second week of school with first grade.
As soon as I can get back into my library and finish setting it up, I will record a tour for the first week of school. I'm thinking of using photos with Thinglink to embed mini-videos for each part of the library.
