PLAN AND CREATE WITH A PARTNER
ONE Digital Inquiry Lesson/Project (with Anytime and Real Time Components)
TWO digital artifacts (one teaching artifact and one learning artifact)
FIVE short, but thoughtful video reflections
DESIGN STUDIO provides the time and space for you to plan and create your inquiry project, working individually or collaboratively in the spirit of “Everyone learns from everyone.” Because we believe in the “Power of Two” to promote creativity, you’re teaming up with a Dyad Partner based on your interests and scheduling availability during the week.
HOMEROOM: On Sunday and Monday, you'll network with other participants in structured real-time conversations about your work context and inquiry interests. On Tuesday, you will be assigned to a Design Studio Homeroom Leader to guide and support your efforts. You'll also have access to 14 faculty members and more than 150 other participants with expertise in different disciplines and work contexts.
DAILY GOALS FOR DESIGN STUDIO: During the week, in Design Studio, you explore resources, practice your skills, develop plans, and create media that helps you develop an inquiry project relevant to your needs. Each day, scaffolded guidance is offered in relation to your goals and needs. At the end of the week, on Friday, you and your partner share what you have developed and created in the Virtual Gallery Walk. Download your own copy of the Daily Design Studio Goals (see also below) and check in daily with your homeroom leader and dyad partner to share your progress and/or questions.
INQUIRY TEMPLATES: You might consider using the Design Studio a Template to design a lesson or project that integrates anytime and real-time elements of teaching and learning. Over the course of the week, the template will grow to incorporate the concepts of digital and media literacy that you wish to bring into your lesson or project. Your Dyad Page will include a version of the inquiry plan template that you can customize to document your work in Design Studio.
During the Institute you will be using the Anytime/Realtime Learning Model as the primary pedagogical approach for the plan you will develop. You will use the Personal Digital Inquiry Framework to help you consider how you might design learning opportunities linked to four sets of essential inquiry elements. You will also use the Digital and Media Literacy Framework to identify specific digital literacy competencies your project might best address. Finally, we will encourage you to consider how an expanded conceptualization of literacy -- with its focus on reflection and action-- helps learners develop intellectual curiosity that connects the classroom to the culture.
Learn more about the core elements of the three frameworks that will guide your work this week.
