A look inside Camp Hope

SPOKANE, Wash. – Warming tents are going up at Camp Hope as freezing temperatures linger in the forecast.

An update from the Washington State Department of Transportation says service providers are putting up those tents in the middle of the encampment, with propane heat, so people can stay warm. Tents are expected to have a 20-person capacity.

Potable water tanks on site will be insulated and heated so drinking water does not freeze. Water deliveries, every other day, will begin next week.

WSDOT says state and local outreach partners continue to offer the Trent Shelter, as well as transportation there, for people who do not want to stay in the encampment.

“If the city decides to implement a winter weather plan that includes additional shelter space, we will offer those alternatives as well,” WSDOT said. “While multiple state agencies and service providers continue to work to permanently close Camp Hope and find suitable housing alternatives for people living there, it is imperative that we provide appropriate resources for the encampment during winter weather.”
