Festivals

There are festivals and workshops held locally and internationally which specially cater for students who have a passion for Drama or Theatre!

DASIS

Locally, there is one festival held each year by the combined efforts of the International Schools in Korea to explore Drama with students from other schools and is a wonderful day of creative collaboration.

DASIS is usually hosted by an international school in Seoul where students from about ten schools gather to explore a given theme under guidance from professional Theatre practitioners. It is an all day theatre festival from 8am to 9:30pm on a Saturday in February and includes all meals, workshops and the fun involvement in an evening performance open to the public.

ISTA Festivals

During the academic year, there are numerous festivals hosted by International Schools and organised by ISTA or the International Schools Theatre Association, an arts organisation “providing high quality experiences that develop creative learning and internationalism through theatre.” Seoul International School is a full member of ISTA.

Middle and High School Festivals are three-day international theatre experiences for young people, teachers and artists

Middle School Festivals are for young people aged 10-14

High School Festivals are for young people aged 14-18

ISTA’s model is based on a collaborative process culminating in a final performance and includes: Ensembles, workshops, host housing, out and about (artistic/cultural experience in the host city) and social activities.

A film about what happens at an ISTA festival can be seen on their Vimeo website. All workshops are tailored to help them progress with their Drama studies, but also to be awakened to new dramatic forms and rich cultural performances.

A schedule of upcoming ISTA festivals can be seen HERE. While the Performing Arts Department is always keen to promote and join these festivals – they do require a financial commitment from parents for airfare, accommodation and workshop fees, but are rich dramatic experiences for students.
