E-Learning/Virtual Learning in Drama for Middle School & High School

If the school is closed due to unforeseen circumstances, Drama students will be required to continue their learning online through Google Classroom. For any closure of the school to in-class lessons, Mr. Meiklejohn will post assignments, reading material or a combination of both on the Google Classroom site by 7:30am on the day of closure and then will begin the lesson online in Zoom at the scheduled time.

Online work will involve either:

E-Learning - a range of activities that the student will complete online; e.g. answering quizzes, filling in forms, writing in a Google Doc, recording a video of practical work and uploading it or reviewing another student's practical uploaded work etc

Virtual Learning - in which Mr. Meiklejohn will interact with them or the class via webcam during their Drama class time; e.g. asking questions, giving information about a topic, providing feedback or debriefing a class session etc

Some work may be of a practical nature and students may be required to film themselves completing a short dramatic task. This video they will upload to Google Classroom or Google Drive and will be shared with Mr. Meiklejohn. Other lessons may involve Mr. Meiklejohn recording a group performance on Google Meet/Zoom for future reference on Vimeo or Google Classroom.

If students require any help, they can send Mr. Meiklejohn a message through Google Classroom or Google Meet. During class times, Mr. Meiklejohn will organise a group chat with individuals, groups or even the entire class through Google Meet. These will be compulsory. Please see the 'how to' video and document about Google Meet.

All due dates for written assignments or filmed practical work, must follow regular school guidelines and be submitted on time. The same rules apply for late or missing work, so please see the appropriate document here. Students should expect to spend the same amount of time on an assignment or practical exercise as they would in class.

Please remember when students are online in Google Meet/Zoom they must:

• show common decency and be polite when dealing with both the teacher and fellow classmates.

• have an appropriate quiet, uncluttered and neat space to interact with each other and the teacher

• avoid using too bright or distracting virtual backgrounds

• have an additional ample space for dramatic physical work

• show their face clearly with appropriate lighting and framing

• be dressed appropriately, not be on reclining on their bed or in their pajamas!! Or have a covered face or hoodie

• avoid eating any food during the course of the lesson (bottled water or a drink is fine)

• always have their cameras on with muted mics when there is virtual learning, unless responding to teacher questioning

• enter the class on time by the first 5 minutes of lesson time otherwise a tardy is given

Obviously, personal circumstances are taken into account (sickness, family obligations or Internet problems) but please note that e-learning is an important replacement for cancelled school days to ensure appropriate education of each Drama student - and are considered official school days for attendance and assessment. Sometimes, the MS or HS Principal will join our classes at any time.

Attendance will be taken online!

E-Lesson Participation Marking Schema (Weekly marks entered into Powerschool)

0 - Student did not appear online in class/group/1:1 discussions

75/80 - Student appeared but did not engage online in class/group/1:1 discussions

85 - Student participated in class/group/1:1 discussions but with limited evaluation/analysis

90 - Student participated somewhat in class/group/1:1 discussions with some evaluation/analysis

95 - Student participated appropriately in class/group/1:1 discussions with good evaluation/analysis

100 - Student participated extensively in class/group/1:1 discussions with detailed evaluation/analysis
