Q: Do you have a ride-share board?

A: Sorry we do not.  Please use existing FB groups in your community (like "Our Pai Family" for Pai) to find others to share rides with.   (There WILL be ride-sharing opportunities with Songtawes for leaving the festival on the 20th morning) 

Q: Do you rent or sell tents, sleeping bags, blankets, and straw mats?　

We do NOT rent tents nor blankets this year.

We WILL sell a limited number of USED tents and blankets at the festival’s convenience store for 100 THB each.

 But it’s best you bring your own because they may sell out very fast. 

You can also buy tents and other items in the town (about 3-4 km away.

Also there are many vendors around the festival renting tents and mats/blankets.  Most are about 200 THB/day.

You are welcome to come and sell tents in our Pop-Up market. :-)

If you buy a tent and don't need it after the festival you are welcome to donate it to the festival.  Please bring it to the entrance when you leave. <3

Q: WHEN is the festival?

A: From Feb 10th to 19th, 2023. (We’ll leave the venue in the morning of 20th)

Q: How much is the entry fee and can I buy the tickets in advance?

A:  A Day Pass (1-day ticket) is 300B while a 10-day ticket costs 1500B. You can only purchase them at the festival site. No advance sales. 

- Children are welcome also. (Children under age 15 get free entrance).

- Dogs are welcome if they are trained to behave. Please be responsible for your dogs.

Q: How to get to the festival?

A: Click HERE for a google pin if you are driving.  

There is a public bus every 30 min to 1 hour from Chang Mai (in north Thailand) to Chiang Dao. (74 km, about 1.5 to 2 hours bus ride). Take a songthaew (a small vehicle) from the Chiang Dao bus stop. (About 10 min) You can also rent a car of bike in Chang Mai and drive there. See ACCESS tab of this website for more info.

Q: What time/day can I arrive?

A:  You can arrive anytime on the 10th or the subsequent days.  (Please do not arrive on the 9th.)

Q: When is the festival over and until when can I camp there?

A:  The last night of music is on the 19th. Please prepare to leave the festival site in the morning of the 20th. Please DO NOT plan to stay overnight on the 20th (This caused a lot of trouble last year). There will be songtaews available for hire that you can share it to go to Chiangmai and possibly Pai.　See ACCESS tab of this website for the bus timetable, etc.

Q: Is there a safe place to store valuables?

A: Sorry, we cannot take responsibility for your valuables. Bring them at your own risk.

Q: What should I bring?　

A:  (Unless you are staying out in guesthouses,) Shambhala is a camping festival, so, bring whatever you normally bring for camping such as…

 - your own tent

- sleeping bags

- mats to sleep on

- flashlight (head torch)

- warm clothes (it gets cold at night)

- summer clothes (it’s hot during the day)

- bathing suit

- towel

- natural/organic soap and shampoo

- environmentally friendly laundry/dish-washing soaps (Please use the natural ones that do not harm the environment)

- refillable water bottle (We have water stations)

- your own reusable cups, plates, bowls, and cutlery.

- some garbage bags to keep your trash in by your tent so that you won’t have to walk all the way to get to the garbage cans. (Please minimize your trash and take them with you when you leave the site.)

- mosquito repellent

- hat

- sun screen

- ear plugs (If you are sensitive to noise, ear plugs may help you have a good night sleep.)

- a string to hang your towel, laundry, etc.

- yoga mat (if you are doing yoga)

- Females, please bring a sarong or T-shirt, tank top and shorts for the hot spring. Thai local women don’t show much of their skin below the armpit line, so it’s respectful to cover up. (Yes, it’s a double standard of male and female but we are in their country and in their village, so we want to respect them.)

- If you are a musician, please bring your instruments.  

- If you are an artist, feel free to bring your art supplies or things to make, share or sell.

VERY IMPORTANT!

We lost the last location and had to move because some of the festival attendees were caught possessing illegal hard drugs. Because of this, we had to agree to the police for their daily routine checking for drugs at our festival site. Please respect our festival and do NOT bring, posses, buy or sell drugs. Otherwise, you will become the cause of ending Shambhala! If we see anyone having, taking, selling or buying drugs, he/she must pack and leave the festival immediately!!

Q: I am a musician. Can I perform on stage at this festival?

A: Music submission for the 2023 festival is closed now. There is an Open Drum Circle on the 10th (Friday). Everyone regardless of age and music experience (with or without drums) are welcome to join. See DRUMMERS WANTED page for the details. There is also an Open Mic on the 17th (Friday). If you want to play or sing, put your name down at He Po Pa Kitchen 1-2 days in advance.

Q: Can I get a free entry to the festival if I volunteer or run a workshop?

A: No. See the WORKSHOP and VOLUNTEERS & STAFF pages on this website if you are interested to volunteer or run a workshop.

Q: I am a dancer/fire performer/etc. and I want to perform at this festival. Can I get a free entry ticket?

A: We do not offer free entrance for dancers/fire performers/etc. but you are welcome to ask for donations. If you would like to perform at the festival, please contact us through our email: shambhala.firecircus@gmail.com with the subject: FIRE/VISUAL PERFORMANCE. 

Q: I want to be a part-time volunteer and understand that I need to buy my own entrance ticket.

A: If you are interested in being a part time volunteer, talk to us at the reception when you arrive. Please also read the VOLUNTEERS & STAFF page on this website.

Q: Can I volunteer to take photos/make videos?

A: We don’t hire or delegate anyone for photo/video-taking because we like to let them happen organically. To all photographers and videographers, you may take photos/videos if you are so inspired and share them after if you like. #shambhalainyourheart

Q: Can I sell food or drinks at the festival?

A: Only the sellers with local THAI staff or staff with WORKING VISAS are permitted to set up shops at the festival.  See the VENDORS INFO page on this website for more info.

Q: Can I sell items other than food and drink at the festival?

A: Pop-Up shops are welcome! Note: There may be random police check during the festival. If you don't have Thai staff to sell your goods or if you don’t have working visa,  we do not recommend setting up a shop on the main grounds.  You may say something like, "I'm just hanging out near the shop" or "I'm just watching the shop for my “Thai friend” if police come by and "mistakenly think" you are selling goods without a work visa.  See the VENDORS INFO page on this website for more info.  

Q: What’s the weather like?

A: February is the dry season in northern Thailand and it rarely rains. It is quite hot during the day and cold at night. The temperature difference between the day and night is the greatest in this season. So, make sure to prepare some warm clothes, mats, blankets and other measures for the cold.

Q: Do you have the timetable for the public bus from Chang Mai to Chiang Dao?

A: Yes, we do. The bus runs every 30 min to 1 hour between 6:00 am until 17:30 and it costs 90 THB. See the ACCESS/TRANSPORTATION tab on this website for the timetable and other transportation info.

Q: How can I get to the festival site once I arrive at Chiang Dao bus stop?

A: The festival site, Yang Pu Toh Campsite (ค่ายลูกเสืออำเภอเชียงดาว) is about 6 km from the bus stop. (Map) Find a songthaew driver and negotiate the price. There should be many near the bus stop. You may share a songthaew with other festivalgoers. It takes about 10 min. See the ACCESS/TRANSPORTATION tab for more info.

Q: If I stay in a cottage/guest house near the venue, is there a means of transportation to the festival?

A:  You can take a songthaew. Please ask your cottage/guesthouse staff for the arrangement.

Q: Can I rent a car in Chang Mai and drive to the festival?

A: Yes. See the ACCESS/TRANSPORTATION tab for the map and directions.

Sorry, Our Rental Tent and Matt supply was damaged during he covid years so we will not rent tents.

there may be some tents for sale but best to bring your own because they may sell out fast.

8. Q: What should I bring?　

何をもっていったらよいですか？

A: Please bring your own Tents and sleeping bags. This is a camping festival so bring whatever else you usually bring camping. Lights (torches), warm clothes (it gets cold at night), bathing suit, towel, shampoo/tooth brush/soap/ etc (preferably organic so as not to pollute the water supply or river), your own cup, plate, utensils (some shops will let you borrow theirs but it is preferable if you bring your own), pocket knife, string for laundry, etc.... If you are sensitive to noise you might also want to bring ear plugs for sleeping at night. dogs (socialized) are welcome as long as they are trained to behave. Children are also welcome. (Children get free entrance) If you are a musician please also bring your instruments, if you are an artist feel free to bring your art supplies or things to make/sell.  VERY IMPORTANT! We lost the last location and had to move because some customers were caught with illegal hard drugs. Also because of this, this year every day police will come to the festival to check for drugs. Please respect our festival and do NOT plan to come and sell drugs at our festival. You may become responsible for ending Shambhala! If our staff catch you doing or selling drugs you will be escorted to your campsite and told to immediately pack up and leave the festival.

13. Q: I want to sell something at the festival.
