Eligibility

Eligibility FAQ

Do I have to be a member of the Medical Library Association or the Public Health / Health Administration Caucus to apply for this stipend?

No! Everyone is welcome to apply. You are definitely invited to join MLA and PHHA if you like hanging out with other public health librarians!

Am I eligible for the Sewell Stipend?

To be eligible for the Sewell Stipend, you must:

  • Be a librarian or information specialist

  • Work with or have accepted a librarian/information specialist position that now includes, or will include in the near future, working with public health practitioners or PH/PH-related students, staff, and faculty

  • Be a United States citizen or have permanent resident status (i.e., a holder of a green card)

Can I receive the stipend more than once in multiple years?

Yes. The Fund’s Board of Trustees encourages former recipients to apply for a second stipend. There is competition for the award, so return applicants must be specific about why a second award will be beneficial. Receiving a stipend one year does not guarantee that you will get one in subsequent years. The stipend is generally not awarded more than two times.
