      • How does your current or future work relate to public health (either with academics, practitioners or educators)?

      • What are your future plans for your work that involve public health?

Points Worth (PW): 10 points for description of past and/or current work, 10 points for description of future work

Q2. How are you planning to have a productive relationship with your public health mentor? We don't need to know details like "We will have lunch together on October 16, 2021" -- rather, show us that you've been thinking about how you and your mentor can benefit from, and contribute to, this relationship.

  • The best response discusses goals that are specific, measurable, attainable, and/or relevant. (total: 20 points)

    • What would you like to get out of a mentorship relationship? In what ways will the mentor help you?

    • What are some of your specific plans for working with a mentor?

PW: 10 for how you would use the mentor, 5 for reciprocity (i.e. what you can give to the mentor), 5 for planning (i.e. how you will plan meetings, etc.)

Q3. Describe the effects of the Sewell stipend on your work. New applicants: how will participating in APHA benefit your current or future work in public health? Past recipients: what effect did participating in APHA have on your work, and why should you be funded again?

  • The best response mentions an impact on work (if new recipient, mentions anticipated impact - if past recipient, mentions impact of past APHA participation). (total: 20 points)

      • Why is receiving a stipend to the meeting important to you?

      • If you couldn't attend, how would that impact your plans to develop public health opportunities?

PW: 10 points each for how APHA attendance will impact current and future work. These categories may overlap.

Q4. Describe some APHA sessions or topic tracks that interest you. Why did you choose these?

  • The best response demonstrates that the applicant visited the current APHA annual meeting website and explored program offerings. (total: 20 points)

      • What specific APHA sessions or topics are of interest to you?

      • Do the programs you’ve selected match what you are doing with your current/future plans?
