What does the Sewell Stipend cover?
The Stipend covers APHA membership (if you're not already a member), conference registration, and a small stipend to help with travel costs, lunch with your mentor, child care, etc.

Direct payments on your behalf (instead of reimbursements)
Starting in 2021, you don't need to pay for membership and registration and then request reimbursement. Instead, MLA will pay APHA for membership and registration directly. All recipients will receive taxable stipends ($300) to defray travel expenses. Because these future payments will be stipends, rather than reimbursements, you don't need to save receipts.
