We held 2 separate Junior BandFests this year in term 4:

Tuesday 17th October at McKinnon Secondary College

This year’s Guest Conductor was Emily Furlong.

Emily Furlong majored in trombone at The University of Melbourne with a combined Bachelor of Music/Bachelor of Teaching degree (Honors). Emily completed her AMUS and LMUS on the trombone, performs with various brass bands and orchestras and is the current State Champion of Solo Trombone in Victoria. Emily has also traveled extensively to Ghana in West Africa to study their traditional drumming. Emily has a wide experience conducting, motivating and inspiring groups from primary school beginners through to advanced secondary college ensembles. During her time as Head of Music at Bentleigh Secondary College, Emily led the concert band from a Year 7 Beginner Ensemble to a group touring internationally and performing in the Advanced Concert Band section at the then MSBF - in the space of 9 years.

Emily currently teaches and conducts at Camberwell High school. She has conducted concert bands at many festivals, music camps and secondary schools, with groups up to 250 students and has a focus on not accepting anything but the highest level from each student.
