Woombye station opened in 1891, when the line opened from Landsborough to Yandina. On 28 April 1988, the line was electrified through the station from Caboolture to Nambour. In 2009, the station was extended with a temporary structure with scaffolding and plywood materials which is only a temporary arrangement.
Woombye station is named after the homonymous town of Woombye after the myrtle tree that grows in the area.
Woombye station only has one platform which can be used for services travelling in both directions. There is a passing loop opposite the platform as well as a disused goods yard.
Woombye station only has one station entrance which is from the carpark on Keil Street and Blackall Street.
Woombye station does have disability access.
There is a bus stop outside the station serving nearby suburbs. It is served by the 649 Caboolture to Nambour railbus which supplements the train timetable.
