Wacol station opened in on 8 October 1874 as Wolston, when the line opened between Ipswich and Brisbane. Between 1885 and 1887, the line through the station was duplicated. On 8 July 1927, the station was named Wacol as the name caused confusion with Wilston station. Wacol is a coined word from weigh coal which was the station’s principal purpose. The line was electrified through the station from Darra to Ipswich on 20 September 1980.
Wacol station has two platforms consisting of two side platforms. Platform 1 is for outbound services and platform 2 is for inbound services.
Wacol station has five station entrances. Two are from the level crossing on Wacol Station Road, two are from the carpark on Wilruna Street and one is from the carpark on Akenside Street.
Wacol station does have disability access however assistance is required due to the steep ramps and level crossing.
