Runcorn station opened in 1889 at the same time as the line. The line was electrified to on 18 September 1982 from Roma Street to Kingston. In 2008, the station was upgraded as part of the Salisbury to Kuraby triplication project which included converting the eastern platform to an island and a new footbridge with lifts.
Runcorn was named after the homonymous suburb of Runcorn which was named after Rev McLaren’s (who was an early settler in the area) farm which was named after the town in Cheshire, England.
Runcorn station has three platforms consisting of an island platform and a side platform. Platforms 1 is for inbound services, platform 3 is for outbound services and platform 2 is for some peak hour services.
Runcorn station has three station entrances. One is on Beenleigh Road, one is from the carpark on Nathan Road and one is from the Nathan Road level crossing.
Runcorn station does have disability access.
