Kingston station opened in July 1885 at the same time as the line. On 3 November 1984, the line was electrified from Roma Street to Kingston and on 18 September 1982 from Kingston to Beenleigh. On 21 April 1992, a second platform opened as part of the duplication of the line.
Kingston station serves the homonymous suburb of Kingston which was named after Charles Kingston who was an early land holder in the area.
Kingston station itself has two platforms consisting of an island platform. Platform 1 is for outbound services and platform 2 is for inbound services.
Kingston station has four station entrances. Two are from the carpark on Mary Street and two are from the carpark on Milky Way.
Kingston station does have disability access.
There is a bus stop outside the station in the Milky Way carpark serving nearby suburbs. The routes that serve Kingston are routes 550 and 552.
