Riverview station opened in 1876, at the same time as the line. Between 1885 and 1887, the line was duplicated between Ipswich and Corinda. The line was electrified on 20 September 1980 through the station from Darra to Ipswich.
Riverview station serves the homonymous suburb of Riverview. It was named due to the view of the nearby Bremner and Brisbane Rivers.
