Palmwoods station opened in 1891, when the line opened from Landsborough to Yandina. On 28 April 1988, the line was electrified through the station from Caboolture to Nambour. In 2009, the station was extended with a temporary structure with scaffolding and plywood materials which is only a temporary arrangement.
Palmwoods station is named after an area of tall palm trees nearby.
