Gailes station opened in 1874 as Pullen Pullen Flats, when the line opened between Ipswich and Brisbane. A siding was constructed in 1885. Between 1885 and 1887, the line through the station was duplicated. In 1919, the station was renamed Dingo Hill and then it was renamed to Gailes in 1925. The line was electrified through the station from Darra to Ipswich on 20 September 1980.
Gailes is believed to have derived from the Western Gailes Golf Club in Ayrshire, Scotland.
Gailes station has two platforms consisting of two side platforms. Platform 1 is for outbound services and platform 2 is for inbound services.
Gailes station has two station entrances. One is on Wilruna Street and the other is the footpath that leads to Viking Drive
