It is believed that Banoon station opened between 1950 and 1952 when the line was duplicated between Yeerongpilly and Kuraby. On 18 September 1982 the line was electrified from Roma Street to Kingston. In 2008, as a part of the Salisbury to Kuraby triplication project the station was upgraded which included converting the western platform to an island and a new overpass with lifts.
Banoon was named after the local indigenous word for “sweet water”.
Banoon station has three platforms consisting of a side platform and an island platform. Platform 1 is used for outbound services and platform 3 is for inbound services. Platform 2 is only used during peak hour.
Banoon station has two entrances. One on Breton Street and one on Dyson Avenue.
Banoon does have disability access.
