Auchenflower station opened in 1887. The station was rebuilt in 1960 after the quadruplication of the line. Auchenflower was named after the homonymous suburb of Auchenflower which the name emerged when Thomas McIlwraith, the Queensland Premier at the time bought a house in the area. It is Gaelic for 'a field of flowers'.
Auchenflower station has four platforms comprising of two side platforms and an island platform. Outside of peak times platform one is for outbound services and platform two is for inbound services and platforms three and four are unused. During peak times platform 3 is also used for outbound services and platform four is used for inbound services.
Auchenflower station has three station entrances. One is on Lang Parade by the Wesley Hospital and there are two on Auchenflower Terrace (one by the overpass and one via a subway at the southern end of the platforms.
Auchenflower station does have disability access however assistance is required due to the steep ramps between the overpass and platforms. There is no disabled access from the subway.
