Overview:
The Emotion Desk Pet is designed to be a tool in checking K-3 students' understanding of content they are learning, and if they feel comfortable and confident in moving on to another subject area. Students may feel embarrassed or shy, or maybe even lie about their understanding of content so they don't get embarrassed or shamed by their classmates, so the desk pet is an easier way for students to communicate their understanding. There are 3 main colors on the stoplight: green, yellow and red. When the green light is on their desk pet, students are showing that they understad the content being learned, and are confident in moving on. When the yellow light is on, students are showing they are feeling a little confused, or would like more practice/explanation in the content they are learning. If the red light is on their desk pet, students are showing they feel lost and don't understand what is being taught and need the teacher's help.
Learning Objective: Students will be able to communicate their understanding of a subject area by selecting the color of how they feel about material they have learned.

Step by Step Process for Coding the Circuit Playground:
Step 1. Go to https://makecode.adafruit.com/
Step 2. Click on the blue 'New Project' square. You will then be led to a workspace that has different rows of code blocks.
Step 3. Select the GREEN 'LOOPS' code block. You will have another list of codes that the loops block can do. From that list, click on the green 'Forever' block. Then, drag it to another section of your workspace. See images below for visual aid.
Step 4. Click on the blue 'LOGIC' code block. Select the blue 'If True...' block and drag it to align with the green 'forever' block. Repeat this step for the other two 'Forever' Blocks. See the images below for a visual aid on what your coding should look like at this point.
Step 5. Click on the PURPLE 'INPUT' block. From there, select the 'Button A is pressed' block. Drag it into the 'TRUE' section of the blue code block. Repeat this for the other two sections. On two of the sections, click on the purple 'Button A' drop down menu, and change one to 'Button B' and the other to 'Buttons A+B'. See the images below for a visual aid on what your coding should look like after this step is complete.
Step 6. Click on the BLUE 'LIGHT' block from the main menu. Select the 'SHOW RING' block and drag it into the middle of the lighter blue block. Repeat this step for the other two sections. See the images below for a visual aid on what your coding should look like after this step is complete.
Step 7. Finally, on the 'show ring' block, you will change two of the color rings to green and the other to yellow. You can do this by selecting the color in the center of the wheel (highlighted in yellow) and click on the circles on the outside of the center. Your finalized codes should look like the images below.
Once your CPX is lit up, tape the back of the CPX to a small piece of construction paper and attach the desk pet to the desk.
