History: Napoleon's Invasion

Grade Level: 9-12

Overview:

This lesson utilizes the CPX lights as markers on a map. When the button is clicked, one light will light up. When clicked again, the previous light will turn off as the next one in the sequence lights up. This continues until the end of the sequence. Each light represents a location on the map. When lit, the student is to write or discuss what occurred at that location, and why it is significant.

Learning Objectives:

The student will be able to explain Napoleon's invasion of Egypt in a sequence of events, and utilize the CPX to focus in on key locations one at a time. The student will be able to explain success, failures, motives, or goals at each location.

Process:

2. Create a map to go over the CPX that corresponds with the positions of the lights. On the left is a very rough draft of how mine looked.

3. Fix or sew the map to CPX.

4. Click the button to begin the activity. After each click, the next light in the sequence will go as the previous one shuts off. At the end of the sequence, they will all reset to off. To start again, just click the same button again.

Final Product:

This can be used to visualize historic events or timelines and to go through them chronologically. In an actual lesson, the map would be much more detailed rather than in the rough example. At each spot in the light sequence, students have the opportunity to write, discuss, or create based on the location that the light/map is at.
