Hannah Pullen

Hannah Frances Pullen was born on January 10th 1859. By the age of 12 she was living with her uncle and cousins, the Twist family, on Park Street, Selby. It is presumed that by this point, she was an orphan. By the time she reached her early twenties, Hannah was the headmistress of a small school in Beverley.

Throughout her forties and fifties she was the matron of various nursing homes around the country, as far afield as Harrogate and Weston-super-Mare. Hannah would remain a nurse for the rest of her life, including during the First World War, although it is not known where she served during this time. Hannah never married and did not have any children. She spent her later life living in Lancashire and although it is not known when she died, she is recorded as living in Bootle in 1939.
