Date Implemented: October 2025 – Ongoing
Frequency: Conducted Monthly
To strengthen the culture of preparedness and student involvement in disaster risk management, the School Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (SDRRM) Organization of Eastern Bacoor National High School launched the Student-Led School Watching and Hazard Mapping initiative — a monthly activity designed to identify, assess, and address potential hazards within the school premises.
The School Watching and Hazard Mapping activity empowers students to become active observers of their learning environment. By conducting systematic inspections and mapping possible risks, students contribute to maintaining a safe, secure, and disaster-resilient school community.
This project aligns with the DepEd DRRM Framework and supports the principles of risk reduction, preparedness, and prevention, ensuring that hazards are promptly identified and mitigated before they can cause harm.
To increase student awareness of safety risks and environmental hazards within the school.
To develop students’ analytical and observational skills in identifying hazard-prone areas.
To update the school’s Hazard and Evacuation Maps regularly based on findings.
To promote a culture of shared responsibility for disaster risk reduction.
The activity is conducted once every month, led by SDRRM Officers and Grade Level Representatives, in coordination with Classroom Advisers and SDRRM Chairpersons.
During each monthly session:
School Watching Teams inspect specific areas of the school (e.g., classrooms, hallways, laboratories, restrooms, and open grounds).
Observations are recorded using the Hazard Observation Checklist, noting any potential risks such as:
Slippery floors or uneven surfaces
Faulty electrical outlets or exposed wires
Improperly stored equipment or chemicals
Blocked or unclear evacuation routes
Weak or damaged structures
The team then updates or annotates the School Hazard Map, marking identified hazards and safe zones.
Findings are submitted to the SDRRM Secretary for consolidation and reporting to the SDRRM Deputy Chief for appropriate action.
After each mapping activity, the SDRRM Council reviews the compiled data and coordinates with the concerned departments or maintenance units to address identified risks. Updated maps are displayed in visible areas to inform students and staff of current hazard zones and safe assembly points.
Through this initiative, students are not just participants in drills but active contributors to risk assessment and mitigation. The Student-Led School Watching and Hazard Mapping fosters awareness, responsibility, and teamwork, ensuring that Eastern Bacoor National High School remains a model of a safe and prepared learning environment.
This program reinforces the SDRRM’s continuing advocacy —
“Prepared Today, Safe Tomorrow.”
