If you type CTRL + F, you should be able to search your PDF.
If you have Adobe Acrobat Pro, utilize the accessibility checker and edit existing PDFs to make them accessible. See the full documentation.
If you have a scanned document as a PDF and are using Adobe Acrobat Pro, click Tools, Action Wizard, Make Accessible, and Recognize Text using OCR (Optical Character Recognition).
Without Adobe Acrobat Pro, you can't make a PDF any more accessible so it's important to do so while it is still a document, if possible.

The built-in slide designs that Microsoft provides ensures correct reading order, utilize the layouts provided.
Use a large text size (at least 18pt) and sans serif font, if possible.
Add alt text to all visuals or mark as decorative.
Avoid excess animations as people can be sensitive to flashing or moving images.

The items listed to make documents accessible apply to excel sheets as well. In summary, add alt text to all images unless decorative, give sheets and tabs unique names, and specify descriptive header titles.
To add alternative text for images in Ektron, click an image and under the review tab, and click the inspector tool. Fill in the "Alternative Text" box as described in the documents section. If an image is decorative, leave it blank.
The first heading on a page should be H1, and those below it should follow in order.
When adding a link to a PDF or webpage, the link text should be descriptive. For example, the link text should say "Learn more about accessibility" and not "Click here".
Colored text on a page should adequately contrast the background color. WebAIM offers a color contrast checker.
Tables should have captions. After a table is created use the inspector tool to click on the table and add a short caption that explains the content of the table. The summary does not need to be filled in.
