In some cases, there is a need to split the tournament into different groups depending on the skill level. ScoreTally supports such a format too. An example of such a format is given below:
You start with creating a Single Elimination tournament (say Singles-GroupA)
The losers of round-1 of Singles-GroupA will be enrolled into another sub-tournament (say Singles-GroupC). If a team loses in Singles-GroupC sub tournament also, they will not get another chance.
The losers of round-2 of Singles-GroupA will be enrolled into another sub-tournament (say Singles-GroupB)
With a tournament format like above, you basically can sub divide a big set of teams into sub groups depending on the skill level. In the example above, there are 3 winners:
winner of Singles-GroupA (top skilled players)
winner of Singles-GroupB (intermediate skilled players)
winner of Singles-GroupC (average skilled players)
How to conduct such a tournament using ScoreTally?
1. First create a Single Elimination tournament (say Singles-GroupA). Follow user guide for Single Elimination tournaments.
2. Once all the first round matches are completed, go to settings (top right 3 dots while you are on the Singles-GroupA tournament fixture screen) and select "Create sub tournament"
3. Enter round number of the current tournament (Singles-GroupA) whose losers will form the teams participating in the new sub tournament. (Enter 1 here to enroll all round-1 losers into a new tournament)
If you want losers of multiple rounds to be chosen, you can enter the format "x-y", where x & y are round numbers such that x < y. For example "1-2", if you want to create a sub tournament with losers of both round1 & round2.
4. By default, teams for the new sub tournament are seeded in accordance to the total points they scored in the chosen round. This default order will be displayed to you.
5. Next popup gives you a chance to enter an apt name for the new sub tournament. (Singles-GroupC here). Once this is entered, you have created another sub tournament enrolling the losers of the chosen round of this current tournament.
6. Now click "back" button and go to the "Active tournaments" screen. Select settings (3 dots on the top right) and select "schedule matches or create fixture" to create fixture for the new sub tournament (Singles-GroupC). This is same simple procedure as described in the Tournament - Elimination user guide.
When you create the fixture, you can change the team seeding if you prefer seeding depending on some other criteria than the accumulated game points. If you don't want to change the default seeding order, just click "create fixture" button from the seeding screen.
7. You have successfully created the new sub tournament (Singles-GroupC) and its fixture. Now you can go ahead and conduct the matches as per the fixture and enter the scores until you have a winner for the new sub tournament.
8. If you want to create another sub tournament by enrolling all the losers from second round of Singles-GroupA, then follow the same set of steps 2 - 7 once you complete all the matches of second round of Singles-GroupA.
You will have to enter "2" when the round number is prompted and another tournament name like Singles-GroupB which ideally involves more skilled players than Singles-GroupC.
