The Maldives is a country made up of 1200 islands spread across 510 miles in the Indian Ocean. It is famous for beautiful white beaches and coral reefs. Tourists go there to scuba dive and see whale sharks, rays, and other amazing creatures. And, the highest island there is only 10 feet above sea level! But, unfortunately due to the rise in sea level and climate change, there are big concerns arising for this nation.
Populating this island, found on Christmas Day in 1643, is 14 species of crabs who risk there lives each rainy season to make a treacherous five mile journey to the ocean, dodging hurdles of dehydration, dangerous plains, getting squished by vehicles, and huge armies of yellow ants.
After appearing out of the ocean in 1967, the volcanic island of Surtsey was rapidly declared strictly forbidden to the hoi polloi. Instead of allowing human interference, scientists wanted to monitor the colonisation process of new land by plants and animals data.
