At least 12 species of whales and dolphins, including the minke whale, call the Antarctic waters. The minke whale spends much of its time near the ice-edge. Most species are seen seasonally only.
Deception Island's geothermal pools are a spot popular for the activity by and underwater active volcano. Tourists are frankly always excited to go there. I would be too...!
The Antarctic Peninsula is known as the "Banana Belt" as it has mild climate and gets only 14 to 20 inches (35 to 50 cm) of annual precipitation. And that's about the same as Denver, Colorado, U.S.A.
After building their stone-lined nests along Antarctica's coast, Adélie might have to waddle up to 30 miles (50 km) across seasonal ice sheets to reach the ocean. Long walk to water, I guess.
