There are many organizations and opportunities that have a significant impact (positively and negatively) upon our members, education policy, and Schoolcraft College. The following links are designed to assist members with a starting point to find out more information and resources about things that are important to them.

The Truth About Right To Work in Michigan

The implementation of “Right to Work” legislation within Michigan was not an isolated event and is best understood in a larger political and legislative context. This website serves as a good starting point for digging deeper on the matter.

MEA

The Forum is affiliated with the Michigan Education Association (MEA). Representing faculty and educational staff throughout the state, the MEA’s mission is to “ensure that the education of our students and the working environments of our members are of the highest quality.”

NEA Higher Ed

The National Education Association is one of the largest and most powerful education lobbies in the United States. While much of this work is focused at the K-12 level, higher education is a key segment of this organization. The Forum is active inside the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE).

American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) Exposed

The American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) plays a central role in creating “model” legislation for introduction and implementation at state legislatures. The Center for Media and Democracy has undertaken extensive work to expose the workings of this group.

MESSA

MESSA provides health insurance to our members. At the site you can find information about our ABC benefit plan and health savings accounts.

American Association of Community Colleges

The American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) is the primary advocacy organization for the nation’s community colleges. AACC promotes community colleges through five strategic action areas: recognition and advocacy for community colleges; student access, learning, and success; community college leadership development; economic and workforce development; and global and intercultural education.
