Title: Digging Drains
Aim: To construct drains for irrigation.
Material: Shovel, fork, cutlass, hoe, line, measuring tape.
Method:
Measure and mark out area to be dug.
Select and use appropriate tools to commence the work.
Ensure that the first level of the soil is taken off completely before proceeding to the next layer.
Soil taken out from the drain should be packed neatly on either side of the drain for re-enforcement.
Check to ensure that your lines are in the correct position and to ensure that the drains maintain its correct dimension/gradient and shape of sides.
Select and use appropriate tool for taking out soil type at the next level.
Measure the drain again to verify that the drain has its correct dimension throughout.
Ensure that the drain is connected to a drainage canal.
When task is completed to the required specification, ensure that all tools are cleaned, oiled and replaced at the work station or storage area.
