Module Objective:
This module introduces the trainee to the functions and activities of living plants. Its main focus covers aspects such as identification and classification of plants, the functions of vegetative parts of plants and the principles and techniques of sexual and asexual plant propagation. Other areas of interest highlighted are physiological processes such as photosynthesis, respiration, absorption, transpiration and translocation.
Knowledge Requirement
Demonstrate knowledge of methods of identifying plants.
Demonstrate knowledge of vegetative organs and their functions (roots, stems, leaves).
Demonstrate knowledge of plant propagation methods/techniques.
Demonstrate knowledge of the conditions necessary for germination of seeds.
Demonstrate knowledge of the following physiological processes in plants:
photosynthesis
respiration
translocation
absorption
transpiration
Performance Requirements
Sow seeds.
Transplant seedlings
Plant cuttings

Assessment Statement
The assessment must be made of all knowledge and performance requirements, All aspects of the performance criteria and attitudinal requirements must be met.
Knowledge requirements are critical to the mastery of the practical.performance tasks.
Instructors should therefor ensure that alll these content areas are covered. Evidence of this coverage will be required as a part of final assessment.
