CRAFT is a framework for creating clear, structured prompts that help AI generate useful, relevant, and audience-appropriate responses. The acronym stands for Context, Role, Audience, Format, and Tone—five key elements to consider when designing prompts. Using CRAFT helps ensure that AI understands not just what you want it to do, but how you want it to deliver the response.

AI models respond based on the instructions they are given. Vague prompts often produce generic or off-target results, while well-structured prompts yield precise, meaningful outputs. By incorporating CRAFT, you can guide AI to produce content that is accurate, appropriately styled, and tailored to your intended audience. This is especially useful in classrooms, educational materials, and creative projects.  

The CRAFT Elements

Context – Provide background information or any necessary details.

Role – Define the AI’s role or perspective.

• Example: “Act as a middle school science teacher explaining concepts clearly.”

Audience – Specify who the response is for.
