Artifact Description:
I have chosen to include a presentation that I delivered about speech and language impairments. In the presentation, I highlighted different types of speech or language impairments that students might exhibit, as well as accommodations and modifications that can be used to support students with these types of impairments in a classroom.
Connection to Standard:
This artifact connects to standard 6I: "knows appropriate and varied instructional approaches, including those that develop word knowledge, vocabulary, comprehension, fluency, and strategy use in content areas." In this presentation, I talked about how a teacher might vary their instruction with a student who cannot communicate in the same ways that other students can.
What I learned:
I was able to learn specific information about students with speech or language disorders, and how to support them in the classroom.
Artifact Description:
I have included images of one of the reading intervention programs that I used during my student teaching experience. Edmark is a reading program that targets common words during each lesson. The student is first given a list of words, and it includes words from previous lessons as well as the new target word. By repetition of each new word, it helps the student with everyday reading.
Connection to Standard:
This artifact connects to standard 6L: "facilitates the use of appropriate word identification and vocabulary strategies to develop each student's understanding of content. " This intervention aligns with the standard because it is an effective reading intervention that targets reading fluency and vocabulary for students.
What I learned:
This program was a little bit hard to learn at first, but through experience, I was able to learn how this specific intervention worked. I now have a deeper understanding on how these types of interventions target reading skills in students.
