During the Spring 2019 semester we were tasked to design an outdoor kitchen and 6 cabins. They were to be 200 SF each with a 100 SF outdoor space. They were meant to foster a sense of community while reinterpreting the place based local vernacular which is rooted in the landscape. The kitchen specifically was designed with views to all the cabins. It was going to be the center point of the loop, where the campers could meet before they went to the firepit. Food brings friends together just like the kitchen unites the 3 cabin neighborhoods into one cohesive loop. While the cabins are all made of wood with steel accents, the kitchen is designed from steel and concrete with wood accents. The ceiling draws the eye upwards while the roof above appears to float over the top of you.
