This envelope investigation was researching the Al Bahar Tower's responsive facade and panel system. The design was based off the mashrabiya, an Islamic shading device. Each panel is one story tall and reacts to the environment around it. Computers are linked to all of the panels opening and closing them with the time of day and weather patterns. They are covered in fiberglass and can withstand the intense sandstorms and sunlight of Abu Dhabi.
