I decided to enter the amazing annual kid lit contest Halloweensie again this year. It’s hosted by author and blogger Susanna Hill. The rules are to write a 100-word Halloween story, using the words goodies, glow-in-the-dark, and goosebumps. Below is this years effort.
The House Nextdoor
By Aundra Tomlins
95 Words
Gabby stood outside the dark crumbling house.
Goosebumps pricked her skin.
Did a curtain move?
The house had been empty for as long as she could remember.
She grabbed goodies from her pillowcase, unwrapped chocolate, munching.
“Are you afraid?!” the zombie teased from the lamp-lit sidewalk.
“I’m not afraid,” she whispered.
Her heart pounded, palms damp.
She stepped up.
Screech,
Groan,
Squeak.
Her glow-in-the-dark bracelet lit up the tarnished door knocker.
Knock - FLASH!
The house became illuminated.
The dingy walls- now glimmering.
Petunias growing.
She looked at the empty bright sidewalk.
"Ah! Where am I?”
