The word percent means 'percent' which means 'per hundred' or 100% or 100/100. For example, the number of slices of a cake eaten is 8 out of 10 slices. So, the percentage would be 8/10 * 100 which is 80%.
Increase or Decrease in a percentage
Changes in quantities are often expressed in percentage. To find the increase in percentage we use the following formula: Original quantity + Increased percentage * Original quantity.
To find the decrease in percentage we use the following formula: Original quantity - Decreased percentage * original quantity.
