Dave and I arrived at the Mulberries on 8th August and the sea was like a mill-pond, perfect for diving!
The sun was out too- a perfect summers day. We booked two dives with www.MulberryDivers.co.uk.
They have an excellent rib, the boat ride was fun and it took about 30 minutes to get to the dive site (Far Mulberry). Here you can see one of the many remains of the Mulberry Harbours which were constructed in Selsey. After more than 60 years under the water this is now a wonderful reef approximately 60ms longs by 17ms wide. The North end is the best preserved and is covered in white and orange dead men's fingers, various anemones and two patches of jewel anemones. We also saw schools of pouting, pollack, bass, wrasse, poor cod and bid. Maximum depth is 10m so it was a perfect dive site for a beginner like myself. I borrowed a dive torch from Dave and it was amazing to see all the different colours on the reef and to spy in the nooks and crannies for hiding fish.
Our second dive was a drift dive. It was my first ever drift dive. The current wasn’t strong and it was a great feeling to be carried along. We saw a large spider crab but mainly it was a good opportunity to practice my buoyancy. Again, max depth was just 9.5 metres.
