Scuba Diving is a very safe sport with excellent training offered by all diving agencies. However there are instances of decompression illness and other injuries suffered by divers. Saints Divers held an evening of talks Monday 13 June designed to educate divers about how to avoid decompression illness and dealing with human factors causing accidents. Dr Trevor Oxley from Rugby hyperbaric chamber gave an in-depth talk on the causes of decompression illness, how to avoid it and when it does occur how it should be treated. The second speaker, Gareth Lock, is a technical diver and underwater deep wreck photographer. He spent ten years working at MOD Boscombe Down ensuring that the UK’s military human factors needs were met. He has translated this approach to recreational and technical diving and has set up a forum where divers can report incidents so that these can be learnt from. Fifty five people attended the free event which was held at Wootton Working Mens club. It was a great success and makes up part of the ongoing training that Saints Divers offers.
