This page is dedicated to the Distance Facilitation Pathway of the Rural STEAM Leadership Network. Initially based upon the Oregon Science Project model of educators preparing to lead NGSS professional development, the Learning Facilitator pathway has evolved into a program for educators who want to hone their skills creating and facilitating professional learning from a distance for other adult educators via Zoom. This is a skill that increases rural and remote educator access to professional community and in turn increases student access as well.
This program is an intentional and adaptive community that takes seriously it's role in identifying rural leaders, connecting rural educators to funding opportunities, and creating new and sustainable opportunities for rural education leadership at the state level. The opportunity to join this community via this program is available every summer and Distance Learning Facilitators offer workshops throughout the calendar year as the practicum portion of the program which provides them with the opportunity to identify what they would like to share with others, how to organize it using best practices in distance learning, and how they will plan for ongoing engagement. Distance Learning Facilitators are connected to each other in this community via ongoing informal Zoom sessions where they collaboratively hone their distance facilitation skills.
