Create two quick 5-7 value step scales creating a warm and cool violet (red+blue). If it looks too purple, use burnt sienna (or yellow) to warm it up and tone down (desaturate) the color a little bit.

You can also use any other complimentary color combination to create a neutral, then use white to desaturate it even further.

You will mostly be using VERY LIGHT SHADES of violet, so make sure you mix enough paint for your assignment.

On the same page as your value step scale, tone your paper with a light wash of the burnt sienna. This will help warm up the violet.
