Have you painted a metal surface and it doesn't look "shiny" or reflective? This is probably because you are using the wrong color palette and not over emphasizing your highlights.

Metal actually has a very light violet tone to it, not gray. For this assignment, your challenge is to not use ANY BLACK at all when painting your metal surface.

Metal surfaces usually have strong contrasts and harsh lines when they're clean metals.
Once you've drawn your subject and mapped out the shapes being reflected inside, start painting your darkest colors.
Then, block in the rest of your painting with mid tones, then add your final and brightest highlights at the end.
And do not neglect the brightest highlights as these will give your metal a nice realistic shine.

Create two quick 5-7 value step scales creating a warm and cool violet (red+blue). If it looks too purple, use burnt sienna (or yellow) to warm it up and tone down (desaturate) the color a little bit.
