For this assignment, I had to mix 9 different values of black and white. The purpose of this exercise was to learn how to control my paint mixtures and have an even gradation.

I used the paint that I mixed for my value step scale and created a sphere. We created a sphere because we understand how values can affect the perception of form. Having values that have a smooth transition from one to the other creates a realistic form.

I created a grid and tinted, toned, and shaded a single color. This is done by adding white, grey, and black to a color. The purpose of this exercise is to show how the chroma of a color is affected by adding grey, white, and black to it. My goal was to make my transitions between each color as smooth as possible.

I set up a still life arrangement and used a yellow colored lightbulb as my light source. I am practicing using my tints, tones, and shades that I created in Session 1.3 to paint a still life. We used geometric forms because they are the building blocks of painting all other objects.
