From Christian Wolff/ For Christian Wolff (511 sounds)
To listen is to do/ To listen is to do?
The intentionality of the sound determines what we listen to/How many times does an intention last?
A frequency without meaning is not a sound/Is a frequency without meaning a sound?
We don't listen to the same sound twice/We don't listen to the same sound twice.
Every sound has resonance/ Not all that resonates is sound.

From Christian Wolff/ For Christian Wolff (511 sounds)
During the 80th anniversary of Christian Wolff in Mexico City, there was a concert in which I had the fortune of participating in one of his iconic conceptual compositions. The work its called 511 sounds and its only instruction is to realice 500 different sounds.
Mi process to create an iteration of this piece was by a reflexive and conceptual way that led me to create a serie of statements to get close to the frame proposed by the composer :
To listen is to do/ To listen is to do?
The intentionality of the sound determines what we listen to/How many times does an intention last?
A frequency without meaning is not a sound/Is a frequency without meaning a sound?
We don't listen to the same sound twice/We don't listen to the same sound twice.
Every sound has resonance/ Not all that resonates is sound.
Once the statements were made, I decided to frame an action that could include my reflection on the piece as well as Wolff´s score. I bought a counter and decided to take it with me everywhere. Any time I felt my listening was finding nuances in my cotidianity I would press the button of the counter. I made this until I got 511 different sounds
The performance/Iteration of Wolff´s work started at the stage of his concert which happened at Museo del Chopo in 2014 and finished 3 months and a half later, once the counter hitted the 511 on the streets of Mexico City
The only documentation of this project is the counter with the number 511.
