Internal & External Field Hedges

Boundary Hedgerows

The Robin Hood Allotment Site hosts a series of old field boundary hedges, the lines of many of these probably dating from the Parliamentary Enclosure of the Parish of Gedling in the 1790s.

These are a valuable wildlife habitat in what is now a suburban area.

External Field Hedges & Trees

The hedgerows along the external boundaries of the site are the property of Gedling Borough Council.

The management of these boundaries is the responsibility of the Council and any works undertaken on these hedgerows without the consent of the Council may be an act of criminal damage.

Nesting season runs from March to August inclusive and no works should be undertaken during this period.

Internal Field Hedges & Trees

The management of hedgerows which run along the internal field boundaries of the site, are the responsibility of the Robin Hood Allotment Association.

By custom and practice, internal field hedges are the responsibility of the individual plot-holders along whose plots they pass. However, plot-holders are expected to follow guidance as may from time to time be issued by the Association. Members are encouraged to discuss any plans they may have for any works to internal field hedges and trees.

Nesting season runs from March to August and no works should be undertaken during this period.

Dumping in External and Internal Hedges

The dumping of any material in any of the external or internal hedgerows on site is prohibited.
