Beekeeping
We wish to encourage beekeeping and assist in protecting the rapidly dwindling UK bee population. Our policy is to protect other plot holders and the bees themselves, whilst placing minimum restrictions on anyone wishing to keep bees on their allotment
Minimum requirements for beekeeping at the Robin Hood Allotments
These requirements have been agreed for the benefit of all allotment holders and for the management of bee colonies
Adequate public liability insurance to the value of £5 million pounds or more must be obtained by the proposed beekeeper. This is best and most cheaply realised by joining the British Beekeeping Association (BBA)
Written agreement to bees being kept on any plot must be obtained from all adjoining plot-holders
Proposed beekeepers must provide evidence of being adequately trained or currently taking part in the British Beekeeping Basic Assessment Course
A physical fence should surround the apiary
Suitable barriers should be erected around the proposed site to prevent bees intruding onto neighbouring plots
A maximum of three occupied hives per apiary is allowed
All swarms must be collected and hived asap
As per the renting agreement of the Society the activity must be a non-commercial operation
