ISO 14067:2018 is the international standard that defines the principles, requirements, and guidelines for quantifying and reporting the Carbon Footprint of Products (CFP). It focuses exclusively on the climate change impact category, using a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) approach consistent with ISO 14040 and ISO 14044.
Carbon Footprint of Products (CFP): Measures the total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and removals associated with a product throughout its life cycle.
Scope: From raw material extraction to production, distribution, use, and end-of-life — known as cradle-to-grave. It can also be applied to cradle-to-gate or intermediate products.
Excludes: Carbon offsetting and communication strategies are outside the scope of this standard.
LCA-based quantification: Focused solely on climate change impacts (CO₂-equivalent)
Transparent reporting: Requires documentation of assumptions, data sources, and system boundaries
Verification: Third-party validation enhances credibility and prevents greenwashing
Demonstrates environmental performance of products
Supports carbon management strategies
Enhances market differentiation and green reputation
Aligns with EU frameworks like CSRD, EU Taxonomy, and GPP
