This page is a collection of Scratch projects that I found interesting and thought my students might too. Each challenge is designed for students to check out and learn something small but interesting!
Choose one of the project challenges below. Use this class period and the next to complete your project. Turn in the link to your published Scratch project into the appropriate assignment in Canvas.
Make sure you add instructions, give notes (say which project challenge this is for and link this page), and give credit to other people who's work you used.
Check out this game by the Scratch Design Studio. Give it a quick play then take a look at the costumes it uses and how it switches between levels. This project is a simplified version with no timer.
Your Challenge:
Create a maze game with 3 levels. Don't remix the game. Create your own but keep it simple. When creating your backgrounds for the levels, only use the square tool. Be sure to make your game winnable.
Check out how this Scratch Thank You Card project by the Scratch Design Studio uses the Ghost Effect to make sprites appear. Then check out how it uses "pick random" to make the sprites appear with a really cool effect.
Your Challenge:
Create a project using the Ghost Effect to animate a "Scratch Card" for Earth Day, your mother for Mother's Day, or a friend.
This project the Scratch Design Studio uses the costumes of two sprites and the conversation block to animate a conversation between two Lego Minifigures. Take a look at the original project. Look at the costumes of both sprites - there are many different costumes that you could use to animate different parts of a conversation.
Your Challenge:
Remix the original project and use the sprites and their costumes to animate a conversation between two people. Closely match the actions of the sprites with the conversation.
Check out this project. It's made by using the stamp black, the "change color by ()" block, and rotating the same shape around in a circle. Be sure to look at the code!
Your Challenge:
Create your own sprite in the sprite editor. Use the stamp block and the change color block to create a cool animation with your new sprites costume. Consider using the random block in the size and X,Y coordinates to make your project a bit more challenging. If you really want a challenge, take a look how this project uses a "Make Your Own Block" under the More Blocks menu. This version is a combination of this project and the ghost project above.
