Chapter 18

Chapter 18: I Like Explosions. Don’t you?

“Five minutes?! How?”

Six yelled out.

“Just do what you’ve been doing.”

Six looked kinda dumbfounded.

“But-”

Goldwill appeared behind him again with his buster sword above his head. Ready for a diagonal slash. The air current suddenly changed directions; a compact gust barely pushing Six out of the way of the buster sword. The fountain’s center being obliterated.

Six looked up to see Esther.

“Thank you Esther!"

She watched as Six completely ignored his surroundings and got cut in half again.

“Cyn… there's no physical way we can last five minutes…”

She sighed and readied more spells.

“Fireball. Explosion. Binding. Air Cutter.”

She swiped her staff down as the magic circles lit up. The spells flooded out as they locked onto Goldwill, he put up his sword as the spells slammed into it. The [Binding] spell wrapped around him as his sword began to crack.

||SPELL CREATION||

I need to make something destructive enough to wipe out Goldwill completely.

The cyan-blue gears started to form in front of me.

“Ode I need ideas. Something destructive.”

<On it.>

He pulled up a separate screen and started searching through the world’s archives for ‘destructive’ spells. The years started dating back from this world’s current calendar year.

120 LAD.

It ran through the years rapidly as the screen landed one hundred twenty years in the past, at year zero.

There was an image of this insanely large magic beam shooting into the sky. It emanated this deep vivid blue, like a gem sparkling in the sun.

<Cyn, I got something that could be quite fun.>

“Give me descriptions. Details. As much as possible.”

<Well I would, but Goldwill is coming your way.>

“What-”

I turned my focus back to the center fountain to see him charging at me. I ducked down as he cut [Spell Creation] in half.

“-happened to my cover?!”

<Well Six is down again and Esther is preparing another spell.>

“Six! We’re changing locations!”

I slid between Goldwill’s legs and modified my body to move at a high speed, changing between human and slime forms in quick movements. I quickly grabbed Six by his waist, after he groggily stood up and started running down one of the streets.

Goldwill started to dash after us as I tried to go faster. I then flipped around and threw Six toward him.

“Keep him distracted- use anything!”

Six rolled on the ground and then stood up slowly.

“Anything?”

He looked back as his eyes started to glow black.

“Yes, anything!”

“Now we’re talking~”

Six put his hands together.

“You weren’t going all out before?!”

“Of course not~ that’s no fun.”

“Bullshit it’s no fun!”

He looked forward as Goldwill quickly ran up to him.

I heard him make some sort of laugh… which wasn’t like how he usually was.

||NEBULOUS||

Six’s figure instantly distorted and became blurry, his face becoming covered in shadows. Goldwill tried striking him, his hit… connecting? No… it missed. How did he miss? Now Six is on the left side of his blade???

||SHADOW BOX||

Four shadowy hands emerged from Six’s back blurring along with him. He started to punch Goldwill, who was now trying to block him. His blade cracking a little more. The punches looked as if they were getting heavier and faster. Somehow Goldwill was being pushed back and wasn’t able to defend?

“Why didn’t you do this sooner?!”

“There wasn’t a need to!”

<Oh great…>

I then heard Four chime in.

“What?”

<Eh- yeah I ain’t helping you clean him up after.>

“You guys have to start explaining before things happen.”

<His title activated. He’s a massive edgelord now. So like I said, I ain’t helping you with that.>

“How’s it feel Captain!”

Six had a maniacal grin as he continued… Well at least he was actually buying me time now unlike before.

||SPELL CREATION||

“Ode start feeding me those details. We need to get this done quickly.”

<Alright so we have a vivid blue mana beam shooting into the sky. It expands at alarming rates, it has an explosive nature destroying everything that it touches. Large amounts of mana being drained->

I was creating gears based on what Ode was describing before I paused.

“Wait- did you just give me a debuff?”

<I’m describing what I see with detail.>

“Yeah… but that includes an excessive amount of mana being taken in?”

<Do you want something powerful or not? Strong spells have more mana in them.>

This is some bullshit.

“Fine, continue.”

<Approximately a 10,000 meter diameter…>

As Ode continued listing details off, I visualized and created the magic gears. They glowed a bright cyan as I slammed them together. The ticking of the gears started as they began rotating. The spell kept growing in size, the gears taking different shapes as they connected. The heartbeat of the spell grew in my ears as it began forming.

<Uh- that should be all… I can’t really think of any other ways to describe it.>

I stared at the gears that floated in my hands as I thought of one final description for this spell. The ultimate last piece that would make it rain supreme over the one Ode described from a hundred of years ago.

“Nuclear.”

The gear began taking shape in front of me. Though unlike the other ones… it had an odd color. It was blood red and it chimed an ominous mechanical-like noise. I shrunk the gear down and placed it in the center of the cluster. The other gears intertwining and bonding with it.

<Pardon? Cyn what’s this ‘Nuclear’?>

“You’ll see~”

I readied my fist as the gears clicked and turned. My eyes began glowing red as I slammed a heavy punch into them. Cracks appeared across the cluster as it shattered, my fist going straight through it. The mana exploded out causing the atmosphere around us to grow insanely dense. Six’s skills reacted to the mana causing both of them to be canceled, giving Goldwill enough room to kick him away.

<Cyn you have to get it under control quickly- otherwise you’ll be going down with it!>

I started using the little amounts of mana control that I knew to create a reaction making the spell activate. I felt the amount of mana I had drop significantly, unlike the other spells this one constantly absorbed my mana…

My body started becoming weak as one of my knees gave in and fell, my hand was twitching and my body shivered slightly. Esther saw me fall and teleported over to me. I was trying to hold the spell in place, but it couldn’t grow or be maintained without mana.

“Cyn what’s wrong?”

“Mana…”

I was on the brink of passing out when I felt my mana surge way above my capacity.

“Wha-”

“I’ll supply it-”

I felt Esther’s hands pressed against my back.

“Are you…”

“It’s one of my skills. [Empowering]...”

I smiled and forced the mana to recondense. The air around us shifted and the mana was forced into forming large sigils above the entire city. The sigils were a bright cyan color as they spun slowly. The remaining mana wrapped around my right arm as small magic circles. There was a sigil on the back of my hand that was a gray color. It was slowly filling in with red…

<My guess is that one being your timer.>

“So we have to last until this turns red… Esther, how much mana do you have left?”

“What? Uh- well probably five hundred thousand… maybe?”

“If it goes under fifty thousand stop supplying mana.”

“But-”

I looked into her eyes.

“Got it…”

Goldwill walked past Six who was standing on his right.

“Hey where are you going?!”

“I don’t have time for you.”

I could tell by that remark. That Six didn’t really like it…

“You… ‘don’t have time’...? Then I’ll make you have time.”

Six’s eyes glowed a deep black as his body started getting covered in shadows. Forming almost a type of armor around him.

||EXORBITANT||

The shadow’s at Goldwill’s feet started to react and grab onto him. He stabbed down at them but they just moved around his sword instead.

“You're getting annoying.”

Goldwill’s killing intent shot through the roof as his feet shredded through the shadows. He started walking toward Six. Each step heavier than the last.

How much time do we have left?

I looked at my hand, the coloring was a light pink so at its current rate we had to survive around an entire minute with Goldwill being extremely pissed off.

Goldwill slashed at Six.

Six caught Goldwill’s buster sword.

He then pulled it out of Goldwill’s hands and threw it, making it get lodged into the wall of one of the buildings.

“Now what are you going to-”

Six’s stomach exploded, his armor breaking to pieces, as he fell back. Goldwill pulled his fist back as he looked at Six.

“Don’t interrupt me again.”

Goldwill’s aura was dark now. He wasn’t fucking around… I mean he probably wasn’t the entire time, but Six just pushed him over the edge. His mindset was dead set on killing us now… which isn’t really a good thing.

Now personally. I don’t want to experience dying again so…

⊰───────•✦•───────⊱⊰───────•✦•───────⊱⊰───────•✦•───────⊱

Goldwill turned around and began walking toward his buster sword. Six was now incapacitated and laying on the ground. His body didn’t really appear to be recovering, though it probably was… I think I can safely rule him out of the fight for the remaining minute until my spell goes off.

The buster sword was pulled out of the wall and Goldwill began menacingly heading toward us.

“Esther. You trust me right?”

She looked at me skeptically before answering.

“Yeah… but- why do I have a bad feeling about this?”

“No, no, you're imagining things.”

I waved my hand back and forth in a very reassuring way. She was still questioning my antics before giving in.

Goldwill’s footsteps grew heavier as he approached us.

He instantly disappeared cutting Esther and I in half.

Our bodies collapsed as Goldwill turned back toward us. He looked up, the circles still active. Goldwill walked back toward my body and cut my arm holding the sigils off. He picked it up and examined it, the sigils weren’t moving nor glowing.

“Yo Goldwill!”

He looked up to see Esther and I standing on the roof above him.

I waved down to him excitedly. I had roughly twenty more seconds left until I could activate the spell.

Oh- and to explain what happened. We teleported to the roof after I made clones of us out of slime, pretty smart if I do say so myself~

“Now what?”

“No clue~”

I said it in a cheerful childlike way, which put Esther in a daze.

“No clue?”

“Yep!”

Goldwill went over to Six’s body and picked it up. He threw it toward me, our heads colliding as I got knocked back a little bit. Six was now at my feet, he looked pretty out of it. His regeneration slowly healing him.

The sigil on my hand was almost glowing a bright vibrant red, and we were on the roof so there was no way Goldwill was getting up here right-?

I then heard the building we stood on rumble. I looked over the edge to see Goldwill climbing the wall, using his buster sword as a support.

I guess I spoke too soon…

I grabbed Six’s collar and threw him at Goldwill making him almost fall.

“Stop climbing up here!”

The sigil on my hand turned a bright red as the circles began turning faster. I smiled and looked at Esther. Who fell back and was now sitting on the ground, she looked a little drained which was to be expected from the amount of mana she supplied.

I jumped off of the building, my foot slamming into Goldwill’s sword. It cracked more until it shattered. Goldwill fell to the ground, the wind being knocked out of him, as I landed and swiftly threw Six back up the building.

“Goldwill~ it was fun and all, but I don’t plan on dying today.”

I clenched my fist tightly, the spell activating. The cyan circles turning into a deep red. The air around us vibrated slightly, as the small rocks and pebbles on the ground began to float. The ground shook as buildings started cracking.

“Bye bye~”

I waved toward Goldwill who tried standing up, I jumped back to the top of the building picking Esther and Six up as I began running along the rooftops.

Goodbye Noyade…

“Down Fall.”

I whispered gently as the sigils above the city expanded, I increased my speed. I jumped over the city walls and ran along the open plains as the city glowed with a bright light.

Goldwill looked up toward the illuminated circles. Red static sparks zapping the air as he stood there.

The mana in the air started circulating around the town forming this spiral upward. The dark gloomy clouds pulling in from the surrounding area, forming a vortex with the town as the stormy center eye.

His hands fell to his sides as he watched the light glimmer.

“This isn’t a bad way to-”

Goldwill’s neck softened… the small “rock” bullet in his forearm warping into a small red slime, which started expanding… it wrapped around his neck decapitating him with a clean strike. Goldwill’s head fell as his body stood lifeless.

“...go-”

The air sparkling one last time as the beam hammered down into the planet. A shockwave erupting across the land. The clouds exploded across the continent in an instant. It was a bright vivid red with white in between.

I was thrown off my feet as we fell over. I flipped around onto my back as I panted, the colossal size of the beam glimmering in my eyes as the town was swallowed.

<That’s one hell of a sight…>

“...”

“Yeah… it is.”

The beam slowly began closing in. It then rapidly closed off leaving a crater where the town once stood. Small little white rings of mana moved in an outward motion going up, almost like a mushroom cloud. I fell back onto the grass, the sun close to setting as we laid there. Six regained consciousness and sat up hastily.

“Where is he?!”

He looked around to see we were now in an open field, the town now a crater.

“Oh… I guess we won then.”

He turned toward me excitedly.

“Can I go back now?”

Six had a sort of enthusiasm to his voice.

“Uh… sure…”

I reabsorbed Six, sending him back to the Lacuna. I sighed heavily as Esther sat up in a groggy state.

“Do you think the captain is gone as well?”

She grabbed her head lightly as she spoke.

“No idea-... no. He is.”

I stood up and stretched.

“I’m going to go back for a few minutes. Could you stay here and start setting up camp?”

She looked at me as I started walking off.

“With what things?!”
