Juan M. Avalos
Master Sergeant Avalos is a son of the San Fernando Valley. He was born in Los Angeles and was raised in Pacoima. He attended Morningside Elementary in San Fernando, Sepulveda Gifted Magnet Middle School in North Hills, and is an honor graduate of San Fernando High School Math Science Technology Magnet.
MSgt Avalos enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in August 1997. His occupational specialty was an ADA Computer Programmer. His first orders were to Marine Corps Logistics Base, Albany, Georgia. While in Albany, he attended the Army’s Airborne course and attained the rank of Corporal (meritoriously).
In the year 2000, he transferred to Marine Corps Air Station, Iwakuni, Japan where he served as a Small Systems (Computer) Technician and Research and Development team member.
In 2001, he transferred to Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, California where he then served as a Software Engineering Lead, IT Project Manager, and Department Head. He also attended Marine Corps Martial Arts School and became an instructor.
In 2002, MSgt Avalos was selected for Drill Instructor School and subsequently began his first recruit platoon in early 2003. While a Drill Instructor, he was recognized twice as the Dan Daly Award recipient for outstanding leadership and work ethic. He completed six, 3-month training cycles in Lima Company, 3rd Battalion and also served for one year at Receiving Barracks.
In 2006, he transferred to Marine Corps Base, Quantico, Virginia where he served as the Cyber Systems Chief for Training and Education Command. He was then transferred to Officer Candidates School to serve as a Sergeant Instructor, Platoon Sergeant, and Company Gunnery Sergeant.
In 2011, MSgt Avalos received orders to 9th Communications Battalion in Camp Pendleton, California and deployed to Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan as a part of rotation 12-2. Upon returning to Camp Pendleton he was then transferred to Combat Logistics Regiment 15 and served as their Operations Chief.
In 2013, MSgt Avalos transferred a final time to 2nd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, where he had the pleasure of serving as their Communications Chief. While there, MSgt Avalos deployed twice as a part of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit to Okinawa, Japan and served aboard the Bonhomme Richard Amphibious Ready Group in support of the security and training operations in the Pacific theater.
MSgt Avalos retired from the U.S. Marine Corps in October 2017 and began his time with Reseda Charter High School in September 2018. He is married to Andrea M. Sandoval and they have four children.
MSgt Avalos holds a Bachelors in Business Administration with a certificate in Human Resources Management.

Chief Warrant Officer 3 Garcia was born on 16 July 1985 in Oaxaca, Mexico, where he lived for the first 8 years of his life. He arrived in San Gabriel, CA in the summer of 1993. He graduated from Temple City High School in June 2003 and departed for recruit training on 26 July 2004. Chief Warrant Officer 3 Garcia attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California. He graduated in October 2004 from Co H, 3d Recruit Training Battalion as a Private. Private Garcia attended Marine Combat Training at Camp Pendleton, California, during the month of November 2004. He was transferred to the Personnel Administration School to attend the Personnel Clerks Course at Camp Johnson, North Carolina, graduating in February 2005 as a distinguished graduate. In January 2005 he was promoted to the rank of Private First Class. Private First Class Garcia was issued orders to Marine Aircraft Group 39 (MAG-39), Camp Pendleton, California and reported in for duty at MAG-39 CPAC in March 2005. Private First Class Garcia was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal in September 2005. As a Lance Corporal he served as the Pay/Promotions Clerk at MAG-39 Consolidated Personnel Administration Center. Lance Corporal Garcia was promoted to the rank of Corporal in July 2006 and served as the Pay/Promotions Noncommissioned Officer in Charge (NCOIC). On 5 May 2007, Corporal Garcia was married to Maria. He was then attached to Marine Wing Support Squadron 372 and deployed as a Military Police augment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, to Al-Asad Air Base, Iraq from October 2007 to February 2008. During his deployment he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in November 2007 and served as Sergeant of the guard. Upon his return from Iraq, Sergeant Garcia was joined to the Installation Personnel Administration Center (IPAC) and served as the Orders Section NCOIC and Outbound Section Platoon Sergeant. In August of 2008, Sergeant Garcia was transferred to Marine Corps Base Hawaii (MCBH) and checked into IPAC, MCBH where he served as the Deployments Section Staff Noncommissioned Officer-in-Charge (SNCOIC) and later as the Inbound Section Platoon Sergeant. His son Julian was born on 27 November 2008, at Tripler Medical Center. During his time at IPAC he served as an individual augment in support of Ulchi Freedom Guardian Joint Reception Center NCOIC in Seoul, South Korea from July to September 2009. In October 2010 Sergeant Garcia served as the MCBH S-1 NCOIC and SNCOIC and also attended Sergeants Course aboard MCBH. His son Xavier was born on 12 March 2011, at Tripler Medical Center. In November 2011 Sergeant Garcia was transferred to Headquarters Battalion, 1st Marine Division, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California. He was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant in April 2012. While at 1st Marine Division G-1 he served as the Operations Chief, Manpower Chief and as the Division lead Uniform Victim Advocate. During his time with 1st Marine Division he was selected to serve as the 7th Marine Regiment Personnel Chief and deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Camp Leatherneck, Afghanistan from October 2012 though April 2013. Upon his return he attended the Advanced Personnel Administration Course aboard Camp Johnson, North Carolina where he graduated as a distinguished graduate in March 2014. He was appointed to Warrant Officer on 1 February 2015 and attended the Warrant Officer Basic Course 1-15 at The Basic School, Quantico, Virginia, from January to May 2015. He attended the Personnel Officer Course aboard Camp Johnson, North Carolina in June 2015. In July 2015, he was transferred to Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twenty-nine Palms, California where he served as Inbound Branch, Quality Assurance, and Customer Service Branch, Officer in Charge. Warrant Officer Garcia was promoted to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer in August 2016. In June 2018 he was transferred to Headquarters III Marine Information Group, Okinawa Japan. He served as the III MIG Personnel Officer from June 2018 to July 2020. He was transferred to Headquarters Battalion, Marine Corps Base Camp Butler, Okinawa, Japan and served as the Command Support OIC and the Customer Service Branch OIC from July 2020 to May 2022. He was promoted to his current rank of Chief Warrant Officer 3 in December 2020. Chief Warrant Officer 3 Garcia was transferred to 3d Marine Littoral Regiment, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii where he served as the Regimental Personnel Officer until his retirement after 20 years of faithful service. His personal awards include: Marine Corps Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with two gold stars in lieu of third award, Joint Service Achievement Medal, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with gold star in lieu of second award. Chief Warrant Officer 3 Garcia is married to Maria Garcia of Colima, Mexico. They have two boys, Julian and Xavier Garcia.
